"It's a wonder I did," Gwâthiôn nodded. "I think I did it all for my Mama, mostly. She died happy, so I think I achieved that." He fiddled with his glass, rubbing the rim with his thumb. "Did I tell you that I found out Joss was cheating after my Mama's funeral?"

Gwâthiôn nodded. "I just feel like... three and a bit years, I should have noticed. And when I did, I should have taken Jules and got out. Not hung around to sort things out, not try to get on civilly, just been selfish and got her out."

"I'll consider it a congratulations present for my new car." Elijah said. He paused for a moment and then leaned forward. "I can't sit back and watch this happen, it doesn't sit right. And I know you can take of yourself, and you think that you're happy, but I know you're not. Every time you talk about your daughter, your eyes sparkle less."
