Tom withdrew then, with a nod, and turned to go out of the kitchen.

Jo sighed with relief and went to make her tea and search for chocolate. Wincing slightly, she pressed her hands to her abdomen. She bit down on her lip to keep a whimper from escaping.

Ben had just finished putting Jonathan to bed, knowing he would get a better sleep there. He stepped out of the boys room and didn't shut the door fully so they could come see him if need be.

"Ben," Tom murmured, lines creasing his forehead, and dark smudges under his eyes making him look tired and old. "Something's wrong with Jo. She won't tell me. Can you-" he sighed. "I'm a bad father."

Ben turned and frowned. "Hey, hey. Don't say that." Ben said. "It's Jo. You know she would tell you anything. Obviously this is something hard for her to talk about." He walked over and cupped Tom's cheek with his hand. He pressed a kiss to his fiance's forehead. "Don't fret." he whispered.

"What can be that hard to talk about? She was almost in tears!" Tom replied, frustrated, pulling away briefly before turning back into Ben's embrace with a whine. "I can't even look after my daughter."

Ben frowned for a moment and then his eyebrows shot up. "Tom, dear." he said softly, a small chuckle leaving his lips. "I don't think we can help her on this one."
