Derek sprinted to catch the elevator, shoving his hand between the closing doors as he skidded to a stop, white coat flapping. "Sorry," he grinned to who was in the elevator, pressing the button for his floor, stepping back to lean against the wall.

Meredith glanced at the doctor before looked at the buttons he had pressed.

Derek grinned as he realised they were going to the same floor.

Curling a loose strand of hair behind her ear, she glanced at one of the reflective surfaces of the elevator to make sure her ponytail wasn't going crazy. She let out a soft sigh and glanced at the doctor again.

Derek smirked. "Hi," he murmured.

"Hello." she said quietly, a small smile appearing on her face. Meredith turned her attention to the doors as they opened and briskly left the elevator.

Derek chuckled, following her out and stopping at the nurse's station, watching her go.

Meredith made her way to a patients room and glanced behind her at the doctor before entering the room.

Derek watched her for a moment more before he was whacked on the back of the head by another attending. He grinned and made his way to his first patient, not two doors down from the cute intern.

Meredith tried to pay attention to what her attending was saying but couldn't get the doctor's smirk out of her mind. She wasn't sure who he was, but he was interesting.

Derek directed the intern on the patient's case, correcting her slightly, then moved on to talk to another of his patients

"Grey, you're with Sheperd today." Meredith was told. She nodded and went to the nurses station. "I'm looking for Dr. Shepherd." she told one of the nurses.

"Presume you're Meredith Grey, then," Derek chuckled from behind her.

Meredith jumped a little and turned. She let out a nervous laugh and pushed her bangs from her face. "Yes, that's me. You're Dr. Sheperd?" she asked.

"Indeed," Derek hummed, amused, then beckoned her with him, handing her the patient's chart. "You'll be glad to scrub in on this. Rarely performed procedure."

Meredith took the chart and inspected it. "Wow..." she whispered.

"So," Derek said as they reached the patient's room, standing at the foot of their bed. "Talk to me, Doctor Grey."

(Why. Why must you make me speak medically. I may be obsessed, but I'm not THAT good. xD)

Meredith began reading off the patient's chart and came to the diagnosis and procedure they were going to do. The patient looked nervous so Meredith offered him a smile. "Don't worry, Mr. Spengler. Dr. Sheperd is a great surgeon. You're in safe hands." she said softly. She didn't know this for sure, but she knew that the chief wouldn't just hire some bum off the street.

Derek nodded, smile widening as she interacted with the patient. "So, we'll get you sorted," he addressed Spengler, patting Meredith on the shoulder as he passed. "Get him prepped for surgery then scrub in."

Meredith nodded and did as Derek asked. After she had scrubbed in, she went to stand by Derek.

Derek smiled behind his mask, and pointed out the key parts of the procedure, even when it started getting extremely difficult. But everything went smoothly, and Spengler was closed up within the critical time frame.

Meredith watched with interest and paid attention to everything Derek said.

"Well done," Derek praised as he washed up afterwards, watching her with a grin on his face.

[Caroline Berry]

"That was amazing!" she exclaimed as she washed up. "I didn't know we could that to the brain!"

"Not many can, or will," Derek nodded, drying his hands. "It's a risky procedure. He could have been paralysed completely if I was so much as a couple millimetres off. It's rare for it to go so well."
