"Could use a little work." Meredith replied, just to tease him. A smile played on her lips as she took another sip of coffee.

Derek glanced down at his pager as it beeped. "Emergency room just got a GSW, you want in?" he asked, standing and disposing of his cup.

Derek held the door for her, then jammed the right button, hands stuffed in his pockets.

Once the doors were closed, they were alone again so Meredith leaned over and kissed his cheek. "Good luck. I know you'll do a great job, but... good luck." she said softly.

Derek smiled. "If you say so," he teased gently, but moved off quickly as soon as the doors were open, jogging briskly down the corridor.

Derek nodded. "Go," he ordered, waving a hand as he pushed through the doors.

Meredith ran in the opposite direction and started prepping the O.R.

Derek quickly analysed the patient - the slug had missed the spinal cord, so he deemed it safe for Meredith to handle, when a specialist case came in needing his attention to save a man from a... something in his skull. A knitting needle? He didn't have time to speculate, hurrying along with it.

Meredith turned to him and smiled. "It went great. Everything worked out." she said. "He's in recovery right now."
