Lidija slipped her other arm round him as well and hugged him tightly, letting a few tears fall, for Alexei, as she had been quite fond of him, a few for fear for their futures but mostly out of empathy for Pietro.

"In less that 24 hours, that's all that was said," Natalia shrugged. Pietro finished his cup and was asleep, worn out from running and crying.

Lidija drained her cup and looked over at Pietro. She carefully covered him with a blanket then slipped her shoes off and lay down to try and get some sleep herself.
