"I have a 911 case just coming in, I've been paged. You want to scrub in? You are my intern for the day," he grinned.

Meredith tried to stop the smile that wanted to come out but it escaped. "Okay. Do you want me to come down to the ambulance with you or just start prepping the room?" she asked.

"If you could prep the OR, that'd be great, thank you," Derek smiled, squeezing her shoulder before dashing off towards the pit.

(IT IS THE OR. I GOT CONFUSED FOR A SECOND.)

Meredith ran off to prep the room and started scrubbing in once it was preppped.

Derek hurried in once the patient was stabilised in the OR, already talking at speed. "Male, late twenties, early thirties, two gunshot wounds, no exit wounds, and a knife embedded in his thigh. One of the bullets is dangerously close to his spinal cord, the other in his arm. Any questions, Grey? This will be a hands-on operation."

Meredith nodded as he spoke somehow catching everything he was saying. "No questions. I'm ready." she said and walked into the OR. Once she was suited up, she waited for Derek.

Derek was out quickly, holding his hands out for the towel, quickly dressing and snapping on gloves. "Right. Hang some blood, we'll start with the knife so we can turn him to get the spine.

Meredith started hanging the blood, and watched as Derek worked.

"Meredith," Derek called, starting to gently remove the blade.

Meredith walked over to help him. "You should probably call Dr. Grey in the operating room." she said softly.

"Mm," Derek hummed, setting the long blade in the tray a nurse was holding with a low whistle, letting them wash out the wound. "How's your suturing?"

Meredith started closing up the would and concentrated very hard. She wanted it to be perfect.

"Well done," Derek praised. "Okay, move him on to his front, carefully, I need to get this bullet out."

Meredith helped him move the man into his front gently.

Derek found the entry wound and reluctantly had to make it larger so he could cautiously, ever so gently work the bullet out, careful of the nerves surrounding it.

Derek cursed under his breath as he temporarily lost control of the bullet, the blood-slick metal slippery against the clamp. He withdrew it the rest of the way with little trouble, but sent the bullet flying into the dish with more force than necessary.

Derek pulled away, extremely angry with himself, as he cleaned and repaired the wound. "Doctor Grey, let me see you do the arm wound, please," he managed.
